This is a problem that is widespread, it is the subject of the largest number of claims on pet insurance around the world and it is also the common complaint that dog owners would take a dog to see the vet. Now we know from statistics, that in the United States alone over 8 million dogs suffer from skin allergies or itchy skin.
Dogs skin allergies – Why is this happening?
There are a number of reasons for this and it can be something that is ingested, something that your dog eats that causes it, something that your dog breeds or inhales, or something that comes into contact with his or her skin.
Firstly, as far as ingesting food, we always recommend people to feed their dog either fresh or dried raw meat. This is something that dogs have always eaten over centuries as part of the natural diet and when you get dog food that contains a lot of other additives – this can cause a problem.
Secondly, how dogs can be exposed to things like household sprays, to dust and so on, things that they might breathe in and that can cause problems as well.
Thirdly, whatever comes into contact with your dog`s skin is probably the main problem that causes it, and this can be anything from shampoos, grass seeds, particularly flea bites. It is mange, those sorts of biting insects which leave their saliva behind and that will cause skin problems., it will lead to itching and scratching, and it will make your dog really uncomfortable.
If you know somebody who has a dog that suffers from skin allergies or itchy skin, please share this with them as well.
Some shampoos can be very damaging to your dog`s skin
One of the problems that we hear of frequently is the way that the dogs are shampooed. We have looked at a number of shampoos that contain all sorts of ingredients and many of these can be very damaging to your dog`s skin. Particularly, ingredients like sulfates and there is a lot of other things in shampoos as DA, DEA, petrochemicals, aluminum. All sorts of things like that or any one of these things, any one of these ingredients could be causing the problem for your dog.
So, we have said about a special shampoo specifically for tweeting dogs with sensitive skin. Now, you may not be aware of the sensitivity of dog skin. Dogs have a more sensitive skin than most of us. Although there is a number of humans who have sensitive skin, the majority of dogs have sensitive skin and even the toughest, very powerful dog can have such problem and that is what we have to look to protect.
All surface of the skin has what we called acid mantle and this is the area that protects the skin from elegance, things that want to attack and get into the skin, live on the skin and so on. Many of these can cause the problem.
We all have bacteria, fungi, and yeast on our skin and so do dogs, but it is in a balance. When you upset that balance (balance of the acid mantle of the dog skin), then the problem arises. It is vitally important to use a shampoo that is designed for your dog`s skin.
Human shampoos are too acidic for dog skin
A lot of human shampoos are too acidic for dog skin, so the shampoo that we`ve developed has a higher pH and it is much more in tune, in complementary to a dog skin than this for a human. It helps to protect the skin of your dog so that the acid mantle is not broken down and the normal protection that your dog has is still there. It is a very mild shampoo as well and we`ll come to some of the ingredients that we use in this specific hypoallergenic dog shampoo.
Somebody said that they used a baby shampoo on their dog. And this is one of the worst things that you can do – to use human shampoo on your dog because it is not suitable and it is very important that you stick to a specifically formulated shampoo for a dog.
Many of the ingredients that are put into shampoos, dog shampoos are really not necessary and they are there simply to enhance the aroma, the color, the consistency and so on… Every one of these ingredients has the potential to damage the skin of your dog.

While some dogs are more prone to skin issues such as Bulldogs and Poodles any dog can suffer from this condition if you find that your dog is scratching uncontrollably or breaking skin while scratching you will want to get them checked out by a veterinarian to make sure that this is not more of a problem than you think.
